At Coho Market, we fuel our community by supporting small food businesses. It’s our way to celebrate the diversity of our local brands, and also recognize the incredible work that they do. Launched in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Coho Market was created to give the 100+ food startups in our commissary kitchens a way to get their creations out to the public. It’s also a place for foodies in Vancouver to discover and support hyperlocal brands.
Our mission from day one has been to nurture entrepreneurial dreams, supercharge small businesses, and foster conscious community connections through food. And we do this by working with our diverse and passionate group of food entrepreneurs in our commissary kitchens. Ranging from artisanal bakers, fresh pasta makers, to plant-based product creators, there’s no end to the creativity and talent of our members. They inspire us every day.
So why do we care so deeply about supporting local independent businesses? That’s because the hyperlocal food movement keeps our cities and neighbourhoods thriving. It improves food security by ensuring everyone has more access to sustenance that’s fresh and nutritious. Many of our members source only from local producers, empowering our farmers to continue doing the essential work of feeding our communities. It also sparks conscious consumerism, allowing shoppers to get to know the brands that they support in a personal way.
As for Coho Coffee, our cafe concept that we launched in March 2020, it was another way to support our members. We envisioned it as a brick and mortar opportunity for our members to sell their products via our pastry case and retail shelves. And also to tell their stories by being featured as hero ingredients on our brunch menu. The cafe was also meant to be a way for the community to experience the Coho brand face-to-face, by stepping through the cafe doors, sipping on a coffee, and sparking conversation with our teammates.
As we continue to grow, we’re always thinking of ways to help our members, to shine the spotlight on their creations.
